Class Descriptions
Our classes are based on the theory and practice of Yoga following the lineage of Sri T.Krishnamacharya, teacher of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, B.K.S. Iyengar and T.K.V.Desikachar. By combining knowledge and elements from Ashtanga, Iyengar and Viniyoga, our classes allow the student to explore and cultivate their own individual yoga style and practice.
Ashtanga I: Open to beginners and intermediate students. The emphasis will be on developing a consistent practice consisting of sun salutations, standing poses and the finishing sequence. Additional postures, including backbends will be introduced as appropriate.
Ashtanga II: Designed for the practioner who feels comfortable in sun salutations and standing postures. This class will usually consist of a complete led primary series.
Full Led Primary is a teacher guided class through the full Primary Series of the Ashtanga Yoga system/ Students should have some experience with Ashtanga Sun Salutations and standing posture postures, as well as an understanding of ujiyi breath, bandhas and dristis. All levels are welcome. The intention of the class is to learn and refresh the vinyasa count as well as to challenge the student in their use of the vinyasa system.
Lunch Express: Based on the Ashtanga Primary series with emphasis on Surynamaskars, Standing Poses, Backbends and Inversions. 60 minutes.
Gentle/Intro: A blend of introductory and gentle yoga styles to increase range of motion, relax & renew, often based on the techniques of viniyoga, using breath and bandhas. The techniques of sun salutations will be introduced.
Mysore: Practice the Ashtanga series with the skillful assists of your teacher. All levels welcome. Students enter at staggered times, please see complete description.
Rocket Yoga: Developed by Larry Schultz, a student of Sri K Pattahbi Jois, Rocket Yoga classes focus on Bandha, breath and dristis with the added excitement of combining poses from the primary and intermediate series.
Vinyasa: A flow of asanas (yoga postures) sequenced with the breath.
Power Vinyasa: A flow of asanas focusing on building upper body and core strength. Students will be challenged with arm balances catered to their abilities. Come prepared to work hard for 75 minutes. Not recommended for beginners.
Jivamukti: A vigorously physical and intellectually stimulating yoga method that emphasizes yoga as a spiritual practice. Classes consist of vinyasa, hands-on adjustments, pranayama, meditation, chanting, philosophy, and relaxation.
Prenatal: Emphasis on asanas (yoga postures) that prepare the body for a smooth delivery & beyond-: stretch, strengthen, breathe & relax.
Healthy Back Yoga: This class focuses on relieving physical tension from long hours sitting at a desk, building core strength for better support, and gently stretching tired and tight muscles to ease back pain.
Family Yoga: This lighthearted and fun-filled family yoga class for moms, dads, caregivers, and their favorite 2 to 5 year-old.
Meditation: Learn the techniques of how to de-stress, unwind, chill out, & be happy and present.
Yin Yoga: Yin Yoga is a series of long held floor poses that encourage the flow of energy through the the bones and connective tissues that bind them. These mainly static postures, done slowly and safely, nourish the natural range of motion of the joints, which allows for more ease in sitting meditation postures.
