If an Asana practice is the big bang…..the sound of yoga creates, The Subtle HUM. What is Sanskrit and why might a student of yoga asana wish to develop a relationship to sound? Yoga students will be introduced to the sounds of the Sanskrit alphabet and the path of sound as light, sound as an entry point to inner awareness. First by looking at how Sanskrit, the language of yoga relates with the principles of yoga and meditation and Self. Key points covered: vowel sounds as the spiritual aspect of the language and the consonants as the manifest. Students will practice writing Devanangari script and experience the power of Anusvara (the hum) and Visarga (the echo), Shruti Parampara (call and response chanting) along with meaning from the Yoga Sutra’s of Pantanjali 1.1-1.16 along with other select mantras. Students will also leave with the tools to decipher and sound properly asana names, mantra’s, and other yogic terminology. Please dress comfortably and bring a notebook and a pen.
